Calgary director Gary Burns, whose latest movie Kitchen Party is a hit on the independent film circuit, is already working on next screenplay. Meanwhile, Kitchen Party's young cast of unknowns is quickly becoming known.

Scott Speedman and Laura Harris, Kitchen Party's two teens leads, are getting noticed in L.A.

Harris is doing The Faculty with Robert Rodriguez.

"I've already seen her featured in ads in a few magazines," Burns says.

Meanwhile, Speedman will be seen starting Oct. 4 as the love interest in the new TV series Felicity.

"They showed a clip on Entertainment Tonight.... I just saw Scott's face and I stopped," says Burns.

Burns admits Speedman's talents almost escaped him.

"I wanted kind of a more weaselly kid and he was almost too good-looking. Finally, within weeks of shooting, I hadn't found anyone else and went with him. I'm glad I did.

"He worked out really well."
