KTLA Morning
Show 09.14.00
SAM RUBIN
Scott Speedman is lucky to be here
and we're glad he is.
(SS laughing)
SAM RUBIN
Okay, what happened? The way I heard it you were enshackled at the Toronto airport
...screaming
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
My friends love that story. They love the story you did on me. Trapped in Canada.
SAM RUBIN
What happened?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Well, I got up there... I was doing...it was one of my best friend's weddings, so I got up
there -- the wedding was on Saturday and I got up there on Friday, and I landed and I got
all these messages from my agent and my business manager. "Don't leave the country.
You can't leave the country. Your visa ran out. If you try to leave the country...
SAM RUBIN
Because you are Canadian.
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
I'm Canadian. So, "If you try to get back into the States, they can ban you, for
like, five years from the States. So the producers on my show are going a little nuts. But
that "Trapped in Canada" thing you did, man. That was hilarious.
SAM RUBIN
What is it like...because Mark right now (pointing to someone off camera) is flashing back
to his experience...Mark, go back. He's actually having a Canadian flashback. So what was
it like to be trapped in Canada?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Aw, I'm from there, so it was actually a nice little break.
SAM RUBIN
You didn't mind it?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
No, I just got to hang out with my friends I hadn't seen in a long time.
SAM RUBIN
How many...you were delayed by how long?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
I was there for about five extra days. Seriously.
SAM RUBIN
Whoa. (off-camera guy: Man!)
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
(shrugging). Yeah, I know. They had to push schedules for the show.
OFF-CAMERA GUY:
You were drinking Molsons.
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Lot of Molsons. Lot of Canadian. Yeah. It was good.
SAM RUBIN
Oh well, whatever works for you. Well, Scott crossed that, and this is the promo for the
new Felicity season. It's very exciting, and we've got it here actually.
(Promo is shown.)
SAM RUBIN
We picked Ben. (off-camera guy: I picked Noel!) But who's the girl in the bathtub?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
I don't know.
SAM RUBIN
And what's going on with Felicity and Javier? That's the weird thing...
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Nuh-nuh-nuh-no.
SAM RUBIN
You don't feel there's a little competition?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
No.
SAM RUBIN
You guys still having fun, because what happens very often -- year three, and you're
having this great luck in the movies which we'll talk about in a second, but people are
like, "I'm going to break out of the prison of being in a TV show."
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Well, it's hard, and it does get hard. It's like nine, ten months out of the year and the
time you have off it's really hard to...
OFF-CAMERA GUY
Awwww...(says something off-microphone. Everyone laughs.)
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Yeah, I know, I know, I know.
OFF-CAMERA GUY
A few years ago, you were digging ditches in Toronto or building a subway, and
now...(kidding around, waving him off)
SAM RUBIN
Years ago, you were a big-shot Olympic swimmer, right?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
I was training to try to make the Olympics.
SAM RUBIN
Are you going to watch any of the Olympics?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Yeah, some of my friends actually made it.
SAM RUBIN
Okay, we're going to run this clip of Duets. Big-shot movie with Gwyneth Paltrow. And
people know this, but originally it wasn't you, it was Brad Pitt or somebody who was going
to do it.
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Yeah, Brad Pitt was going to do it, and then that whole thing.
SAM RUBIN
So they call you and did you rush up to Vancouver?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Yeah, it just was real quick. Sent up a video tape and they cast me off the video tape.
SAM RUBIN
And now he's like a big-shot movie star with Gwyneth Paltrow. The movie is Duets, take a
look. Yes, the clip is running at this very moment.
(Clip from Duets plays - bar scene
with Maria Bello)
SAM RUBIN
Here's the funny thing, Scott hasn't seen the clip, and he loves that! You really thought
you were doing a good job!
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
(laughing hard) Yeah, it premiered in Toronto and I don't like to watch, so I snuck out
the back.
SAM RUBIN
Oh well. Scott you're a big-shot athlete, how hard would it be to ride from Newport Beach
to San Diego?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Not that hard.
SAM RUBIN
Think I could do it?
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
You could do it.
SAM RUBIN
Lots of people are doing it from Channel 5, and if you want to get involved in our bike
tour, it's to raise money in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. Here's the online site,
it's great, you can register or contribute.
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Just make sure the paramedics are nearby.
SAM RUBIN
Paramedics are nearby. Sharon Tay's doing it, Mindy, Emmit, me..um, www.mns...uh, I forgot
it. It's on our hotline. Scott, thanks for being here.
SCOTT SPEEDMAN
No problem.
